Lumber's nominal Proportions are larger sized than the actual conventional dimensions of finished lumber. Traditionally, the nominal Proportions ended up the dimensions from the environmentally friendly (not dried), rough (unfinished) boards that finally grew to become scaled-down completed lumber by means of drying and planing (to sleek the wood).
